This handmade textile is made by the women from a quechua community in the remote mountain areas of the Cusco region. As descendants of the Incas their weaving tradition goes thousands of years back. They are part of a nature religion where they respect and honor mother earth and the mountain spirits they call ’apus’ and the mastana is traditionally used in ceremonies as a cloth on which offerings to Pachamama and the apus are being served or as a wrap around the paqo shamans medicin bundle.
