This handmade textile is made by Hilaria from Chahuaytire, a quechua community in the remote mountain areas of the Cusco region. The Quechua people are part of a nature religion where they respect and honor mother earth and the mountain spirits they call ’apus’ and the mastana is traditionally used in ceremonies as a cloth on which offerings to Pachamama and the apus are being served or as a wrap for the shamans healing stones.
